Auditions for CCYO and Encore Strings for
the 2009/2010 season will be held on Saturday, 29 August, 2009 from 8:30 am to
3:00 pm. Auditions will be held at Christ Church in LaPlata, located
at 112 East Charles St., LaPlata, MD.
Time slots will be in 10 minute intervals.
You may sign up for an audition time at 240

including time preference)
- Students who need to audition include:

New students who have never been a member of either CCYO or Encore
Strings.

Students who wish to move up from Encore Strings to CCYO.

Students who wish to audition for section leader of their section.

that
you will be returning.

Encore Strings Audition
Requirements
Students auditioning for
Encore Strings should have at least two years of playing experience in public
school or private study. Auditions will consist of the following:
Violin
1. Each student will
play both of the following two octave scales (slur 2) memorized. A Major (on the
G string)
and Bb Major (on the G string)
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 3 level, or above. (For example- Suzuki Volume Two, #
6-12)
3. Sight reading.
Viola
1. Each student will
play both of the following two octave scales (slur 2) memorized. D Major (on the
C
string) and Eb Major (on the C string).
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 3 level, or above. (For example- Suzuki Volume Three)
3. Sight reading.
Cello
1. Each student will
play both of the following two octave scales (slur 2) memorized. D Major (on the
C
string) and Eb Major (on the C string).
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 3 level, or above. (For example- Suzuki Volume Two, #
7 - 12, or Volume Three).
3. Sight reading.
Bass
1. Each student will
play both of the following one octave scales, memorized. F Major (on the E string)
and G Major (on the E string).
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 3 level, or above.
3. Sight reading.
CCYO Audition requirements
Students auditioning
for CCYO should have 3 to 4 years experience playing in an orchestra/ensemble
and private study is strongly encouraged. Auditions will consist of the
following:
Violin
1. Each student will
play each of the following three octave scales (slur 3) memorized. A Major,
Bb Major, and G melodic minor.
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 5 or above.
3. Sight reading.
Viola
1. Each student will
play each of the following three octave scales (slur 3) memorized. D Major,
Eb Major and C melodic minor.

piece at MMEA grade 5 or above.
3. Sight reading.
Cello
1. Each student will
play each of the following three octave scales (slur 3) memorized. D Major,
Eb Major and C melodic minor.
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 5 or above.
3. Sight reading.
Bass
1. Each student will
play each of the following two octave scales (slur 2) memorized. F Major, G Major
and E melodic minor.
2. Play a prepared
piece at MMEA grade 4 or above. (for example- Saint-Sains "L'Elephant"
from "Le Carnival des Animaux"
3. Sight reading.
